3 Heartbreaking Movies about Cancer

Everyone watches movies for different reasons, be it an escape or a learning opportunity. Here are our top 3 recommendations about movies that revolve around cancer, in case you want an insight into what cancer patients feel or go through or if you are looking for a way to help a loved one going through a similar experience.

1. The Fault in Our Stars

The Fault in Our Stars was originally a novel written by John Green.

The two leads of this story, Hazel Grace Lancaster, played by the actress Shailene Woodley and Augustus Waters, played by the actor Ansel Elgort, are two teenagers who meet at a support group for young cancer patients.

Hazel suffers from terminal cancer while Augustus had previously lost his right leg to cancer and is now in remission. It follows a side plot of the two travelling to Amsterdam to meet Hazel’s favourite author and realising that the truth behind a person cannot be interpreted from words on a page.

The beautiful yet tragic ending is sure to bring tears to your eyes.

2. The Bucket List

Edward, a millionaire who started earning money at the age of 16 and Carter, a simple auto mechanic whose life got ahead of his dreams, form an unlikely friendship when they are put together in a room while fighting for their lives against cancer.

When given an estimate of the amount of time they have, they build a bucket list together and escape from the hospital to live more in their last days together than they did their entire lives. This is a guarantee that you will laugh through your tears.

3. The Clouds

Based on a true story, the main takeaway of this movie is, “You don't need to find out you're dying to start living.”

It's the kind of movie that inspires you to start living without regrets now rather than when we get a wake-up call, which in most cases is too late.

The movie follows Zach Sobiech who suffers from osteosarcoma or bone cancer. After multiple chemo sessions and thinking he's in the clear, he finds out that his cancer has spread and now become terminal. This heartbreaking tale will have you smiling through your tears.
